There are a lot of different things one needs to think of and plan out before shipping to Costa Rica or any country for that matter.

First of all you want to located a good company to ship your goods for you from the US to Costa Rica. The next step is to have a detailed article list of all items being sent in your container or box that will be shipped. This is important and I would recommend having a photo log of the items to be able to see their condition prior to shipment.

After you have packaged up your articles and are ready to ship you want to be sure that all your documents that you have been given by the moving company and that you have provided to them are photo copied.  You should keep 3 sets of these documents (one original set and 2 copies just in the case you have any issues during your shipping process.)

Now as you have prepared everything to be shipped here for your home or property you will need a agent in Costa Rica to help you get your items through customs and out.  There will be importation taxes and payments to be made in order to retrieve your shipment.  The best thing you can do is be sure to have the list sent to your agent here.  Finding a agent can be pretty easy.  However if you are unfamiliar you will want to have some referrals from people who have worked with them in the past to be sure they are good.

You will need to supply your documents and shipping information to your Agent here in Costa Rica so they may track the arrival of your shipment of goods.  Then when it arrives they will carry it through customs for you and will be able to produce the customs fees to allow your goods to enter the country.
