Randy and
Brenda Bombard, an environmentally minded couple who
believe that people can and should live in harmony
with nature, founded Costa Rica Reef Realty in 2002.
The two are devoted to development that preserves
and protects the natural resources of Nosara. The
Bombards operate Reef Realty based on the tenets of
"green development," helping others to live
comfortably while in balance with the plant and
animal communities of our unique jungle home. The
Bombards personal commitment to the green
development is evident in all parts of their lives;
the couple demonstrate their green ethic in part by
investing a large percentage of proceeds realized
through Reef Properties in the protection and
rehabilitation of jungle animals injured or orphaned
through development that has not occurred in harmony
with the natural environment.
Philosophy of Green Development
We know it is inevitable that development will
occur. But how do we create a plan that will include
the survival of our native plants and animals -- our
most precious and treasured natural resources?
Development that plans for this co-existence of
people and native plants and animals is called
"green development."
Basic Tenets of Green Development
. Protect Sensitive Habitat - Identify and protect
rare and endangered trees and forest that provide
habitat for native animals.
. Incorporate Corridors - Identify and protect land
"corridors" that connect large open spaces to
promote free movement of animals and keep them out
of harms way (i.e. roads, power lines).
. Minimize Dangers - Identify infrastructure that
could present dangers to animals, such as power
lines, and mitigate those danger through
re-engineering and/or retrofitting to make
infrastructure animal-safe.
. Provide Mitigation - Re-vegetate where possible.
This could include paths that have provided access
to major construction sites. Landscape with native
plants to provide habitat for native animals.
